The Z(3985) as a threshold effect from the D¯s⁎D+D¯sD⁎ interaction
2021
Abstract We study the e + e − → K + ( D s ⁎ − D 0 + D s − D ⁎ 0 ) reaction recently measured at BESIII, from where a new Z c s state has been reported. We study the interaction of D ¯ s D ⁎ with the coupled channels J / ψ K − , K ⁎ − η c , D s − D ⁎ 0 , D s ⁎ − D 0 by means of an extension to the charm sector of the local hidden gauge approach. We find that the D s − D ⁎ 0 + D s ⁎ − D 0 combination couples to J / ψ K − and K ⁎ − η c , but the D s − D ⁎ 0 − D s ⁎ − D 0 combination does not. The coupled channels help to build up strength in the D s − D ⁎ 0 + D s ⁎ − D 0 diagonal scattering matrix close to threshold and, although the interaction is not strong enough to produce a bound state or…

Reports of the AAAI 2009 Fall Symposia
2010
The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence was pleased to present the 2009 Fall Symposium Series, held Thursday through Saturday, November 5–7, at the Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, Virginia. The Symposium Series was preceded on Wednesday, November 4 by a one-day AI funding seminar. The titles of the seven symposia were as follows: (1) Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures, (2) Cognitive and Metacognitive Educational Systems, (3) Complex Adaptive Systems and the Threshold Effect: Views from the Natural and Social Sciences, (4) Manifold Learning and Its Applications, (5) Multirepresentational Architectures for Human-Level Intelligence, (6) The Uses of Comp…
Do terrorism, organized crime (drug production), and state weakness affect contemporary armed conflicts? An empirical analysis
2015
ABSTRACTIn 2014, the UN Security Council emphasized the dangers of terrorism, criminal activity (especially drug production and trafficking), and state weakness in conflict areas. However, neither policy debates nor scholarly analyses have focussed on the potential impact of these elements on conflict dynamics and characteristics, and the investigated partial relationships have led to inconclusive results. This article explores the presence in armed conflicts of terrorist groups among fighting parties, major drug production (indicating the presence of activities typical of criminal organizations), and state failure in the period 1990–2011. Focussing on intrastate conflicts, this article hig…
Bending Work Time: Curvilinear Relationship Between Working Time Dimensions and Psychological and Somatic Symptoms.
2020
Objectives Study examines the curvilinear associations of working time dimensions (working hours, time pressure, work schedules, and control of work time and pace) on psychological and somatic symptoms. Methods Representative Finnish Quality-of-Work-Life Surveys conducted in 2003, 2008 and 2013 were restricted to those (N=11,165) regularly working over 10h/week with more than one-year tenure in their job. Generalised additive models were utilised in analysis. Results Working hours had U-shaped relationships with psychosomatic symptoms, while time pressure had a threshold effect. Work pace control had linear effect. The effects of work time control and work schedules were insignificant. Ther…
Meson-baryon threshold effects in the light-quark baryon spectrum
2008
We argue that selected $S$ wave meson-baryon channels may play a key role to match poor baryon mass predictions from quark models with data. The identification of these channels with effective inelastic channels in data analysis allows to derive a prescription which could improve the extraction and identification of baryon resonances.
Searching for Threshold Effects in the Evolution of Budget Deficits: An Application to the Spanish Case
2004
Abstract In this paper, we use recent developments on threshold autoregressive (TAR) models that allow us to derive endogenously threshold effects in the evolution of the Spanish budget deficit. Specifically, a mean-reverting dynamic behaviour of the budget deficit should be expected once such threshold is reached.
